La Comisión Forestal del estado de Michoacán (COFOM) realizó una evaluación cualitativa y cuantitativa de sus recursos maderables por medio de un inventario forestal, a nivel de género botánico por región. Ante la necesidad de contar con tablas de volumen por especie, se llevó a cabo el presente proyecto para el oriente de la entidad. El rendimiento y las existencias de madera de un bosque se estiman mediante el uso de valores tabulados o tabla de volumen, que se ajustan por la técnica de regresión. En este estudio se probaron en dos de sus especies más representativas, Pinus /awsonii y P. pringlei, los siguientes cuatro modelos exponenciales transformados por logaritmos: Schumacher, variable combinada, Korsun y Thonber. Los resultados del análisis de varianza y sus estadísticos mostraron que todos son confiables, ya que en sus residuales no hay violación a los supuestos de la regresión; sin embargo, el correspondiente a la variable combinada fue el más robusto, pues presentó el valor más alto de F calculada. Derivado de lo anterior, se concluyó que los parámetros de regresión obtenidos en cada especie son diferentes, por lo que se aplicaron pruebas de homogeneidad de modelos; esto hizo posible que se corroborara el supuesto de que las dos ecuaciones son estadísticamente diferentes.
