Abstract

In a tropical semi-evergreen rain forest of Quintana Roo, this study was realized to observed the effects of partial overstory removal in a natural regeneration of Swietenia macrophyl/a King.

Five 0.5 hectare experimental plots were subjected to differents levels of overstory removal (0%, 8%, 28%, 45% and 55%) of the basal area.
The natural regeneration of Swietenia macrophylla was evaluate four years after application of overstory removal.
Agreement to the results, where was removed 45% of original basal area obtained the best results, although no significant statistic differences exist between levels of overstory removal.
