EFECTO DE LA DENSIDAD RESIDUAL EN EL DESARROLLO DE lps pini (COLEOPTERA: SCOL YTIDAE) EN RESIDUOS DE PINO
Keywords:

We evaluated thc intcractive cfTccts of light intensity and aspect of small ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Dougl. ex Laws.) logs on pine cngravcr (lps pini Say) performance. Low, moderate, and high light intensity (21, 000; 4 7, 000; and 67, 000 lux respectively), and top and bottom of logs were crossed in a 3 x 2 factorial experiment replicated in four blocks of previously thinned pole-sizc ponderosa pine. Logs exposed at high natural light intcnsity wcre attackcd much lcss than logs exposcd at low to moderate sunlight. Insccts attacking logs exposcd to high light intensity pcrformed poorly. Moisturc contcnt of phlocm was positivcly corrclated with brood production. However, the highest moisturc content promoted inter-specific competition from other wood borers, resulting in low net brood production when moisture content of the phloem was very high.
