Abstract

A better understanding of the potential of wood products from harvested trees is important from an economic and environmental point of view. This study was made .in the municipio of Tezonapa in the State of Veracruz, Mexico, with the purpose of estimating additive equations with least variance coefficients for total volume and individual compónents for the IAN-71 O Hevea brasiliensis clone for commercial plantations, primarily focused· on latex production. Field data were collected by measuring stem and branch diameter on 66 standing trees of 8, 14 and 31 years old. Four procedures of fitting coefficients for previously selected equations were tested: 1) conventional linear regression, 2) weighted linear regression, 3) seemingly unrelated linear regression, and 4) weighted seemingly unrelated linear regression. Results showed that equations with the least variance equations carne from the last one. The reduction of the coefficient variance was around 30% in contrast to similar procedures. Therefore, this equation is tecommended for estimating coefficients and volume components for the latex IAN-71 O clone.
