MODELADO BIOCLIMÁTICO COMO HERRAMIENTA PARA EL MANEJO FORESTAL: ESTUDIO DE CUATRO ESPECIES DE Pinus
Keywords:
Distribution, models, bioclimatic profiles, climatic parameters, pines, reforestationAbstract
A bioclimatic modelling approach (BIOCLIM) along with updated floristic information, is used to assess 19 climatic parameters and generate models of potential distribution of four economically relevant species of Pinus (Pinaceae) in Mexico. Models of potential distribution reflect the current distribution found in the literature; however, potential distribution can be sometimes overestimated. The results bring up the relevance of high resolution (1 km2) climatic surfaces as well as biological data precisely geocoded (latitude, longitude and elevation). These data sets support the establishment of a correlation between climatic and biological variables, that allow the understanding of the limiting factors which are related to the distribution and productivity of plants. The application of this type of results related to the spatial distribution of potential forest landuse, plantation establishment and climatic controls associated to species distribution and better timber production is discussed. Precise knowledge of climatic variables or parameters, which determine the biologic response, is relevant to management strategies designed for economically relevant species, as well as natural resources preservation.
