EFECTO DE PODAS EN PLANTACIONES DE AILE (Alnus acuminata ssp. glabrata (Fern.) Furlow) EN NUEVO SAN JUAN PARANGARICUTIRO, MICHOACÁN

En la Comunidad lndlgena de Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro, Mich , la industria forestal se basa, principalmente, en el aprovechamiento del bosque de pino; sin embargo, existen otras especies con potencial productivo como el a1le (Alnus acummata ssp. glabrata), cuya madera es utilizada en la elaboración de muebles y molduras. Comuneros dedicados a dicha actividad han manifestado su Interés por el uso de esta especie para plantaciones forestales, pero desconocen las labores silvoculturales necesarias, dentro de las cuales las podas son importantes. El obJetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el efecto de cuatro intensidades de poda (O, 30, 40 y 50%) con respecto a la altura total del arbol en una plantación de aile de 2 años 8 meses, en una localldad cuya altitud es de 2,590 rn. La plantación se estableció en julio de 1995, sobre una superficie de 2 ha, con un espaciamiento de 3 x 3 m entre las plantas, lo que dio un total de 1111 ejemplares. Después de 4 años de haber aplicado las podas, no se encontraron diferencias significativas en el crecimiento en altura y diámetro fustal. Se concluye que la aplicación de las podas hasta en 50% de la altura total a 3 años de edad no afecta de manera negativa al crecimiento de los árboles, pero si se observó una ligera disminución en el diámetro.
