There are near 570,708 of disturbed ha and 35,000 ha per year become declined in the state of Michoacan. The Genetic lmprovement Program of the 2002-2008 Sustainable Forest Development Plan includes seven seed areas and two seed orchards. Seed areas guarantee seed production for several years, since they are the immediate source of germ plasm whose quality may be imprnved in 7 to 1 O per cent; they will support the forest reforestation and commercial plantations in the state. The purpose of the actual study was to settle two seed areas with Pinus pseudostrobus, P. montezumae and Abies religiosa in order to produce seeds with genetic value, of which their origin and the parental source is known. They are located in the Tarasca Basin and at the Eastern region, in Nuevo Parangaricutiro and Zinapecuaro, where altitude measures 2,685 to 2,900 m cleavage 6 to 40% and a surface of 15 to 16 ha; 1,488 trees were selected, of which 1,188 are P. pseudostrobus (79.84%), 112, P. montezumae (7.53%) and 188, Abies religiosa (12.63%). They are 51, 50 y 45 years old, BHD of 60.38, 45.19 and 39.86 cm; heights were 34.92, 31.33 y 27.05 m and crown cover, 9.66, 8.64 and 7.06 m; forest density is 34 and 61 trees per ha and selection intensity was 41.44 to 42.89 per cent each. 38 plus trees were chosen to instan· clona! seed orchards.
