Abstract

With the purpose of enhancing knowledge for the better use of red oak wood (Quercus acutifolia}, the influence ofprevaporizing wasdetermined with regard to the characteristics and drying time of 2.54 cm thick serrated wood.

The inicial average contents of wood moisture before entering the stove was of 70%. Drying tests for the first load were made in a one cubic meter capacity, nonreversible forced air circulatio11. and automatic ventilation experimental furnace.
The second one, was made in a six cubic meter, with reversible air circulation and automatic ventilation experimental stove.
Final moisture contents amounted to 8%, with leveling and conditioning treatments in 15 and 13.5 days for loads l and 2, respectively, with moderately-accelerated sequels, producing wood with a quality comparable to that commonly obtained with a drying time of 20 and 22 days using other procedures.
