Abstract

Five low thinnings treatments, removing O. 20. 40. 60 and 80 % of nurnber of trees. were tested at plantation ages of 8 and l l ycars at "La Sabana" Pinus carihaea var. hondurensis plantation, which is located in Oaxaca State. Me:xico. lnitial plantation density was 2,500 trees/Ha. After two years. statistical differences werc significant in total increment in dbh, basal area and volume: differences were not significant in tcrms of relative increment in those variables (relative to the rcmaining values). dbh total increment was greater as thinning intensity increased in both ages. In the same parameter. basal area and volurne per plot were lower as intensity was higher. It was also evident that response to thinning was slightly better in the younger plantation.
