Abstract

In arder to be competitive, the forest industry must maximize its revenue through the reduction of the production costs and by increasing the recovery factor, according to the characteristics of the raw material. In this study, the plywood recovery factor (PRF) was determined with a log sample size of 180, a direct relationship was found between grades and diameters of the logs with the grades and volumes of veneer recovered. The revenue from plywood production was determined with the information of the free on board FOB log yard prices and the proportion of log quality, generating 33% of grades 2M and 3 and 67% of log grades 4 and 5; with a redifined price of $ 1,412.12/ m3r and $ 700.00 respectively. The production cost of each type of plywood was integrated with the log costs and the veneer production cost, which ranged from $ 36.05 for the 3 mm plywood thickness to $ 176.97 for the 19 mm. The revenue from each kind of plywood was determined with the integration of the plywood production cost and the selling plywood prices for the different grades and plywood thickness, which for the plywood graded as class BD, the revenue was $ 33.34 for the 3 mm thickness, and $ 102. 78 for the 19 mm.
