Abstract

Man, in his ambition to create areas for agricultural production, has destroyed natural landscapes of inestimable value; for this reason, new strategies must be sought to incorporate native species in order to restore them. This work was carried out at the Facultad de Ciencias Forestales of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and consisted of the reforestation of a 630 m-long road. 13 native plants were used, and their behavior and appraisal in the landscape were assessed. The plantation was established in September 1996, and the survival, height and diameter of the trees were monitored from that time until 2012. Both multiplicative or parametric and economic or capitalization methods were used for the appraisal. In the first, Swiss method, the value is given by four indices, and in the second, by the baseline area. The results show a 70% survival rate; Pithecellobium pallens and Cordia boissieri registered the highest values. As for the diameter, Pithecellobium ebano, Prosopis laevigata and Pithecellobium pallens are, so far, those with a largest increase, with values of 27.60 cm, 27.20 and 24.60 cm, respectively. As for the valuation methods, there is no significant difference between the parametric and the capitalization methods, with $1 493 616.00 and $1 518 226.00, respectively. However, the capitalization method is recommended, since it is more simple and objective. Prosopis laevigata, Pithecellobium ebano, Pithecellobium pallens and Quercus virginiana occupy the first places, with the highest values.
