Abstract

Intensive work in wood areas stems generally from knowing the productive capacity of forest soils reflected on growing wood species or other interesting species grown in the area.
This study was conducted in the Tapalpa mountain over a 5 204 hectare suñace offorests where you can find the four major pine species:

Pinus michoacana. Pinus oocarpa. Pinus leiophylla. Pinus lumholtzii.

Separate site indices, (S 1), were derived for ali four species. The Schumacher model was used to adjust the curves and trunk analyses were conducted for the S I curves. Thus, 115 trees ofthe pine species were slashed. The sample was taken from the entire area when good, undamaged and pest or disease free trees were found. For each species three curves were defined corresponding three indices, the total age and total height ofthe trees used as variables.
The base ages were selected close to the technical shift; i.e. the age derived by measuring 35 cm and 40 cm in trunk diameter. Base ages were 50 years for Pinus michoacana; 70 years for Pinus oocarpa; 45 years for Pinus leiophylla and 100 years for Pinus lumholtzii.
