Abstract

The study was made on the general biological cycle of Megastigmus a/bifrons Walker. (Hymenoptera: Torymidae).
As well as an evalutation of damages in the seed during a two-year period of cone production, in the three hosts thereof of the Purepecha sierra, situed in Michoacan state, Pinus michoacana, P. montezumae and P. pseudostrobus.
The estimate of infestation percentages was made based on the full seed extracted from eones close their ripening crop and full seed averages per cone were used to estimate damages on the previous year crop, as during this year dry eones collected from the ground were used, because the production of green eones was very scarce.
It was possible to verify, in the study of the biological cycle of wasps, that it shows an annual generation, with emergences from january through april each year, keeping a minimum part of the population in a diapause state for 2 years.
During the research an average of 27.4% of full seed destructed by Megastigmus albifrons (W.), in its hosts was obtained.
