Abstract

This study was carried out at "San Felipe-Bacalar" Campo Experimental Forestal (CE F), ocated in Quintana Roo, Mexico; in a six year old secondary forest vegetation.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of partial overstory removal over increase in normal diameter (diameter at l.3 m ofthe stem), total height and basal area in sac-chakah (Dendropanax arboreus) and tzalam (Lysi/oma bahamensis) species.

Randomized block design was used with five treatments and two replications. The  experimental plot area was 625 m2.

The treatments were different levels of canopy removal, cutting 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 90% of the number of tress per area.
Annuals increments were evaluated two years after application of overstory removal in both species.
The analysis show positive response in normal diameter and basal area with increased canopy removal in both species.
