NOTAS IMPORTANTES SOBRE EL CHICOZAPOTE {Manilkara zapata L. Van Royen).

Manilkara zapata L. Van Royen is a specie that is originally found in mexican territory on the gulf of Mexico watershed, from San Luis Potosi, the north of Veracruz and Puebla states, to the Yucatan peninsula, and in the Pacific ocean watershed, from Nayarit to Chiapas states.
It presents samely on limy grounds as metharmofogic grounds with good drainage, its altitude amplitude since sea level to 800 meters.
Actually its principal product is latex, that is used as raw material for chewing gum industry.
For extraccion and exploitation of chicozapote latex, there are three methods: lncision on spiral form, "V" form incisions on one side tree, and Zig-Zag incision.
The last system has been considered the most adecuated to preserve this resource.
Chicozapote latex is a few non-wooded forest material that generates foreing capital income on the country. During 1991-1992, approximately 3 971 people from 41 communities were benefit around Quintana Roo.
