Abstract

The present study was carried out on the cutting area known as "El Cucha ro", part of the second section of Atenquique, Jalisco's Unidad Industrial de Explotación Forestal. It presents a surface approximately of 2 000 ha, conformed by Pinus douglasiana as principal specie in its different development stages. This area is managed through the Metodo de Desarrollo Silvícola with the purpose of riching a regular forest (in relation to diameter, age and heighl) by the regeneration treatment of "parent trees" and through intermediate cuttings during the turn.
The Reineke principie was applied with severa! variants, according to the condition founded on this study area. The information was obtained settling by the correlationship between crown diameter and diameter at breast height (D B.H.) (Alexander, 1971 ).
There were analized 178 even-aged stands and was settled the top number of trees for each diameter class with a density index of 1 077 trees for the 25 cm D.B.H. class (the highest density on this class), this was the data to generate a density index table for Pinus douglasiana, to compare the different stands densities in any stagc of development; and when a thinning is applied it can be settled a tree number to leavc on the stand in every stage, till reach mature stands that has been considered optimaze as in production and increase volumes.
It concludes that the Reineke model IDR= e<LnN+ALnD+B) could be applied to the field data to obtain an r = 0. 98 with a similar slope of -1.5 556 like Reineke's -1.605.
