In areas burned by tire, competetion between saplings and weeds for water, nutrients and light is critica!. Hence, chemical treatment was tried as a too! to release pine regeneration in areas affected by tire. Five herbicides were tested under two kinds of land exposures, in two different seasons and at various doses. Findings show there is a di:fference between the products used depending on their origin, mode of action and selectivity with no difference in herbicide behavior, considering the land exposure and dose used. However, a discrepancy was found regarding the time of application.
