Abstract

This is a study on the market behavior of coniferous saw wood (series 1970-1994) for the construction industry in Mexico. An econometric model of simultaneous equations was formulated which integrated three functional relationships: supply, demand and price, and an identity condition: import-export balance; structural and reduced forms were estimated in order to retrieve the effects of several predeterrnined variables, such as sawn wood production price, annual average salary of silviculture sector workers, per capita income, and average price of imported lumber, among others. Price, cross, and income short term elasticities were calculated.
