Abstract

Pinus montezumae Lamb. is one of the most importan! Mexican pine species for economic purposes; however, it is not usually used in commercial plantations because of the nule or slow height growth of seedlings when they reach the grass stage. In arder to stimulate this condition, tour solutions of giberellic acid (bencilaminopurina), organic salts (thiourea) and inorganic salts (potasium nitrate and zinc sulfate) were tested upon Pinus montezumae seedlings of two, four and eight months old. Ali concentrations of growth regulators and salts were toxic, causing foliage damage which, as a consequence, had an effect upan seedling survival. However, growth regulators affected hypocotil diameter increment and bud stimulation in two, tour and eight months -seedlings. Apical bud formation was only stimulated in seedlings of eight months, although no elongations effect was noticed.
