The Mexican wood industry is designed for saw milling softwoods and there are not suitable technologies for saw milling hardwoods. Therefore, new alternatives are required to saw mill hardwoods that allow to increase hardwood processing productivity. Bearing in mind this problem, two bandsaws of 5 inches wide were tested. The teeth of one bandsaw were tipped with stellite 12 (treated bandsaw) and the teeth of the other one were normal (normal bandsaw). Logs were saw milled into flitches of uniform dimensions in depth and longitude. The measure of sawtooth dulling was made by taken a negative of the cutting angle and energy spend was also measure during the cut of the logs. The results indicate that sawtooth ciulling and energy spend were always greater on the normal bandsaw than on the treated bandsaw. The normal bandsaw presented a steady increase in thicknes3 variation of the cutted boards, reaching up to 5 rnm in variation, while the cutting variation of the treated bandsaw was always within 2 mm.
