TÉCNICA DE LA SILUETA PARA ESTIMAR ÁREA FOLIAR Y BIOMASA AÉREA EN ESPECIES FORESTALES

El área foliar representa el total del aparato fotosintético; su cuantificación requiere-de análisis destructivos, aun cuando se ha recurrido al uso de ecuaciones alométricas. La biomasa de un organismo se asocia con su índice de productividad. La proyección del área de la copa de un árbol mantiene una relación directa con su área foliar y su biomasa; para el silvicultor o el plantador es importante conocerla para estimar la calidad de una planta con sólo medir dicha característica. Mediante el análisis de regresión lineal simple se ajustó un modelo de la forma Y= /Jo+ /J1 X para determinar la vinculación que existe entre la proyección de las siluetas de la copa y el tallo de plantas jóvenes de Eucalyptus sp. con su área foliar y biomasa de la parte aérea; Y representó a la biomasa y al área foliar como variables dependientes y X al área proyectada de las hojas como independiente. De esta manera se obtuvieron dos modelos, uno que asocia el área foliar en función del área proyectada (r2 = 0.91) y otro gue determina la relación entre la biomasa aérea total y el área proyectada (r2 = 0.83). Los resultados indican que la sombra de la silueta de las hojas tiene una alta correlación con su área foliar y con su biomasa, pero es mayor entre las siluetas de las hojas y su área foliar.
