The foraging act1vity of the hvestock goats of Valle de Zapotittán de las Salinas, which is located ín the Tehuacan-Cuicatlan Biosphere Reserve in the state of Puebla, was assessed during one year from the knowledge of the foraging habits, particularly of the walked distance per day, the area of influence and the preferences in the diet. We found through direct observations that the goats forage an average ar 7.81 hours per day, with average walked d1stances per day of 2.6 + 0.5 km SE. The area of influence of the goatherds was estlmated at 30.2 km"'"l_ Apparently, the forag1ng of the goats was not affected by the landforms The goat browsed on 73 30% of the plant specIes, and 53 10% of the browsed time was dedicated to four specres cf the 75 recorded ,n the study area, for which a 11st Is presented. The rangeland of the research area was evaluated as adequate for the breeding of goats, because most of the plant spec,es were preferred in higher or similar proportion to the1r abundance Due to the fact that the foraging area habita! Is hm1ted mostly the same throughout the year 1t Is poss1ble to set a management program to Irnprove this activity
