Several methods have been applied to determine the agrological and forest potential of a region based on the climatic condilions in the last years in Mexico. However, those methods have not been modifted to make them more precise to locate suitable areas far different species. In the present study suitable areas were delimited for three farest species Pinus leiophyl/a, Pinus greggii and Pinus ayacahuite in the High Balsas Watershed, by modifying the method used more frequently for zone location, by calculating the probability at 80% for temperature and preclpitation, through a normal distribution and an accumulative distribution. The suitable zones obtained with each distribution were compared with those resulting from the average values of both v¡3riables. Significant differences were found between them; with the normal distribution the smaller suitable areas for the three pine species were obtained. The forest area has been around 90% approximately if the suitability potential that the watershed has far P. /eíophyl/a is considered compared with the land use of 2002.
