The outcome of a time and productivity study of two organization schedules applied over three poplar tree (Populus sp.) fellings in Castilla-Leon (Spain) is presented in this paper. The harvesting system was longwood or full tree. With the aid of forest operators for felling and timber processing, and log loaders for stems and logs hauling field work was made. To predict time and productivity of poplar harvesting, different equations were developed, which were constructed through cumulative timing data. Both manual felling and hauling off by log loader are analyzed. The equations will be used to organize and predict productivity and cost in similar felling, according to the forest harvesting size (less than 1 ha or between 1 O to 15 ha). The most important explanatory variables· for cutting and timber processing productivity are diameter class (Cdiam) as well as first
living branch height or pruning height (h,Rv). For the extraction of timber, the most relevan! parameters are covered distance (drecOfr) and stem/log number. lncomplete loads means great productivity loss, which becomes a serious problem in forest harvesting. A corree! planning and organization in this sense might be useful to solve it. These results may be a first approach to productivity models far poplar fellings, and can be a good reference for management planning of this species
