El GÉNERO Agave L. BAJO CULTIVO: TAXONOMÍA, DISTRIBUCIÓN Y USOS

La determinación taxonómica es muy importante en el aprovechamiento y manejo de los recursos naturales. El objetivo de la presente investigación consistió en identificar las especies, distribución y usos del género Agave bajo cultivo en la región sureste de Coahuila, México. Se colectaron 32 ejemplares botánicos, obtenidos en 22 sitios localizados en los municipios de Arteaga, Saltillo y General Cepeda; además se llevó a cabo una revisión de los especimenes de Agave depositados en el Herbario de la Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro. La identificación y descripción del material se realizó con la ayuda de las claves taxonómicas de Gentry (1982). Los taxa identificados incluyeron tres especies con tres variedades y tres subespecies, a saber: Agave salmiana ssp. crassispina, Agave Sq/miana var. salmiana, Agave americana var. americana, Agave americana var. marginata, Agave americana ssp. protoamericana y Agave scabra ssp. scabra. De ellos, A. sa/miana var. salmiana y A. americana var. americana resultaron ser los más utilizadas por los habitantes de las comunidades ejidales dentro del área de estudio, donde actualmente se emplean en los programas de reforestación, para la delimitación de parcelas agrícolas y reforzamiento de bordos, como forraje en las épocas críticas de sequía y para la extracción de aguamiel.
