Competition among trees occurs when the availability of resources is lower than the sum of requirements of the population for its optimum growth. lndirectly, Competition Indexes (IC) estimate stress among trees when trying to get light, carbon dioxide, water and nutrients; if these data are put into a prediction model, they can evaluate growth and mortality. The purpose of this study was to determine distance dependent competition models, supported by non-linear regresion; in order to obtain the most accurate option for conifer forests. The choice was based upon the statistical values from the growth models of the regresión analysis of different indexes, in arder to observe the best response and degree of accuracy. The choice was based upon the statistical values from the growth models of the regresion analysis of different indexes and thus obtain the best response and degree of accuracy. Results show that two were the best indexes included in a prediction model of the basal area (lg): 1) the so-called crown area index, in which Fresse growth model followed by Korfs was adjusted (R2)= 0.2344; SME = =0.000000160; F = 424.4658) and 2) Biging y Dobbertin index, whose logarithmic model values were R2 =0.2438, SME = 0.000000183 and F = 624.55
