Abstract

Distrito Federal has a rural area that covers near 50% of its territory. In order to support its conservation through forests, through this project were determined the production areas for the establishment of species used as Christmas trees (Abíes religiosa, Pínus ayacahuite var. veitchii, Pinus cembroides, Pinus greggii and Pinus maximartinezi1), horticultura! stalks (Dodonaea viscosa) and forage (Atriplex numularia and Eysenhardtia polystachya. The study was carried out by using GIS (geographical information system) in order to relate agroecological requirements of the forest species with physical characteristics of the environment (topography, altitude above sea level, precipitation, maximal, minimal and average temperature, evaporation, soil units, pH, organic matter content, texture, soil depth, slope and geographic exposition). Results show that over 80 percent of the forest surface of the study area has good conditions for the Christmas trees species (Pinus greggii, Abies religiosa and Pinus cembroides). On the other hand, for Pinus ayacahuite (68 per cent) and Pinus maximartinezií (33 per cent) the area is smaller. The zones in which the multiple use shrubs (Dodonaea viscosa, Atriplex numularia and Eysenhardtia po/ystachya) can have good productivity are located in the rural zone of Tlahuac.
