FACTORES QUE INCIDEN EN LA SINIESTRALIDAD DE LOS INCENDIOS FORESTALES

A pesar de que algunos indicadores meteorológicos, tales como la temperatura y la humedad relativa, podrían correlacionar bien con la incidencia de incendios forestales, la influencia de factores sociales y de otro tipo complican esta aparente sencilla relación. Las variables sociales se asocian con la causalidad humana y se refieren, entre otras, a las actividades agropecuarias y al nivel de vida. El presente trabajo se realizó con el propósito de detectar las variables sociales, meteorológicas, productivas, económicas y de uso del suelo, que se correlacionan con las indicativas de siniestralidad de incendios. Se determinó la correlación de Pearson entre seis variables de siniestralidad y 86 variables explicatorias, incluyendo todos los estados del país y considerando un periodo de dos años. Se obtuvieron cientos de correlaciones significativas y se procedió a desarrollar un proceso de regresión de inclusión/eliminación progresiva de variables mediante el procedimiento Stepwise del programa SAS, para obtener los mejores modelos hasta cuatro variables. La superficie de área perturbada, la velocidad más alta de las máximas de viento, el número de productores agrícolas apoyados durante el ciclo productivo primavera verano, el número de combatientes de incendios forestales y el nivel de alfabetización, entre otras, fueron las variables con una mayor correlación con la superficie afectada, el número de incendios y otros indicadores de siniestralidad.
