A land zoning for the establishment of commercial forest plantations of Eucalyptus grandis and E. urophylla in the limits of the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Veracruz is reported. Results from the spatial multicriteria evaluation techniques known as boolean algebra and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), implemented in a SIG environment to identify land suitability levels, are compared. The evaluation criteria were selected with base on the influence (weight) of the ecological requirements of the species and the availability of adequate scale cartographic information. Discret variables such as precipitation, temperature; soil depth, soil texture, soil pH, and continuous such as altitude and slope were used. All criteria (variables) were standardized using fuzzy logic membership functions. The relative importance of the criteria (weights) were calculated from expert’s opinions. Results indicate that the studied area has potential for the establishment of plantations with the species considered. More than 50% of the area is very suitable to establish E. urophylla, whereas for E. grandis the suitability is distributed as follows: 25% high, 25% medium and 50% low.
