Abstract

A five years old mixed plantation of eight associated species was assessed into a complete block experimental design, with four treatments and three replications. Treatments considered on: local provenance with no fertilization (LPNF), foreign provenance with no fertilization (FPNF), local provenance with fertilization (LPWF) and foreign provenance with fertilization (FPWF). Gmelina arborea was completely cut in the fourth year. A mixed model for repeated measurements was tested analyzing the following variables: height (H), diameter at breast height (DBH) and crown diameter (CD) from the eight species. As a result, LPWF and LPNF produced the highest average values, in general. The two species with best development were Gmelina arborea (H= 6.75 m; DBH = 0.08 m; CD = 3.56 m) and Tabebuia donnell-smithii (H = 4.26–4.65 m; DBH = 0.04–0.05 m; CD = 2.15–2.34 m). The largest average growth rates in H and DBH were for Gmelina arborea (4.23 m year-1 and of 0.044 m year-1, respectively) and Tabebuia donnell-smithii (1.47 m year-1 and of 0.017 m year-1, respectively).
