La tecnología LiDAR, herramienta útil para el estudio de la biodiversidad

La tecnología LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) es un sistema de medición masiva de posiciones de forma remota, basado en un sensor de barrido laser (región espectral del infrarrojo) que emite pulsos y registra los retornos contra la superficie; cuando este sensor se ubica en un avión o en un helicóptero, se denomina LiDAR aerotransportado. Además, se pueden obtener imágenes tridimensionales de los objetos reflejados.
Las acciones para la conservación de la biodiversidad deben considerar como prioridad detener la degradación, fragmentación y destrucción del hábitat, mediante estrategias que garanticen la existencia de hábitats estructuralmente diversos, esto en un contexto de paisaje, lo cual es fundamental para la conservación de los nichos necesarios para el desarrollo de los diversos grupos funcionales de organismos, que a su vez, constituyen la biota de un ecosistema y contribuyen al mantenimiento de su estructura y dinámica.
