Abstract

In order to determine the infiltration capacity and the natural flow of the streams that nourish Tecolotlán town in Jalisco state with potable water, the maximum runoff of five brooks located in three microbasins of the central part and southwest Sierra de Quila from May 2012 to May 2013 with the Speed-Section Method were studied. For infiltration and the analysis of the annual mean runoff volume, the Runoff-Precipitation indirect method was used according to the NOM-01-CNA-2000. Seven sites were established to calculate flows and two more over the water sources that provide it to the deposits of Tecolotlán. Considering forest cover density, soil texture and the average climate conditions of precipitation, temperature and evapotranspiration, the average rain water infiltration was 3 080, 2 935 and 1 821 m3 ha-1 for the La Campana, Santa Rosa and Corralitos microbasins. The determination of flows registered an average flow of 2 527 L s-1, of which 1 058 L s-1 flowed in the Salto Seco, La Campana and Betania streams; 1 283 L s-1 in Santa Rosa river, 186 L s-1 in Corralitos streams. The study will help to know the water regime of the streams that partially originates in the mountain range and will precise the recommendations for the good management and use of this resource for the administrative actors and public managers as well as for the users of the natural area and inhabitants of Tecolotlán.
