EL USO DE SISTEMAS DE INFORMACION GEOGRAFICA (GIS) EN EL MANEJO DE LA FAUNA SILVESTRE
Abstract
Se realizó una revisión de literatura para conocer el uso de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (Geographic Information System: GIS) en el manejo de la fauna silvestre. Algunas agencias de recursos naturales internacionales y de los Estados Unidos de América están usando GIS para resolver problemas de la fauna silvestre con relación espacial, principalmente evaluaciones del habitat. Aunque el método más usado para la captura de datos ha sido la digitalización manual o automática de mapas existentes, una nueva tecnología está facilitando la integración de sensores remotos y técnicas de radio telemetría con GIS, que permite reducir en gran medida los costos y el tiempo necesario para la captura de datos. El uso de GIS en el manejo de la fauna silvestre permite mayor eficiencia, flexibilidad y precisión que las técnicas manuales o mecánicas.
