Abstract

The present paper informs about the research results on the prediction of oregano (Lippia herlandieri Shawer) dry leaf weight bushes on semi-desertic areas under exploitation of Colotlán, Totatiche y Santa María de los Angeles municipalities, at the northem part on Jalisco, México. 683 plants were tested distributed on 20 sampling plots of 80 m2 Height, coverage diameter and dry leaf weight was measu"red on each plant.
With independant variables of height and diameter coverage, natural and with sorne transformations, severa) regression models were developed and tested to find the most adecuate to estímate the biomass part correspondent to the dry leaf weight of bushes.
The statistical tests of the results, showed that with the logaritmic transformation of dependant variable (dry leaf weight) and the coverage diameter variable (independant) without transformation, was obtained the adecuate model:

( Ln (PHS) = 1.4514 + 0.38408 D)

With this model was stablished a dry leaf weight table. The height variable itself or combined with coverage diameter was not a good estimator of the dry leaf weight because the variation increased and almost in ali situations the models were not better.
The proper caracteristics of the studied specie and region, restrict the use of obtained table to the area were it grows or in a sintilar kind. However the methodology that is presented could be useful · to develop other tables with application in other regions, species or products.
