Abstract

This study was conducted in august 1982, in the area known as Cucharo which is part of the second section of the Atenquique, Jalisco, Unidad Industrial de Explotación Forestal.
This area has a surface of roughly 2 000 hectares; it holds mainly Pinus doug/asiana in various development stages, treated by a series of intermediate slashings during the shift and one regeneration slash treating the "parent trees".
These slashings were suggested by the Forest Development Method, started in 1974 in this area; eight years after its application, the results are still un.known; consequently, this study was conducted to find out about the consequences especially of regeneration slashings, to this end, 13 treated plantations were tested for the following information: number of seedling per hectare, forest litter thickness, competition between weeds, waste, "parent trees" per hectare, surface area of the "parent tree" tops, stones per m2, exposure and slopes.
Later a regression analysis was made to determine the most significant variables in stablishing regeneration.
The highest influencing variables on regeneration found in this study were: weed competition, forest litter thickness, number of stones per m2, and the number of parent trees per hectare.
