Abstract

The effect of both, the fungi Beauveria bassiana and the bacteria Bacil/us thuringiensis was evaluated on the insect Hypsipyla grande/la in a ten month old red cedar plantation established at El Palmar Experlment Station, Tezonapa, Ver. Three frequencies of application of the pathogens and a control were tested i,i two experiments. For B. bassiana, BBO: Control, B81: monthly, B83: every three months, B86: every six months. In the same manner for B. thuringiensis: BTO: Control, BT1: monthly, BT3: every three months, BT6: every six months. B81 and B83 achieved 71 % of dead larvae, meanwhile BT1 and BT3 achieved 91 % and 67%, respectively. The number of damages caused by the pest was reduced in 75% with B81 and 74% with BT1. Differences in the growth of the treated trees were detected, but environmental factors and other such as the genetic variation had a greater influence.
