Abstract

Three national forest inventaries have been made. in Mexico, and even though wood volume and increments were determined in all of them, the sampling design varied. The Environment and Natural Resources Ministry (SEMARNÁT) defined the Stratified Systematic Two-Stage Cluster Sampling as the method to be used in the 2000-2005 Forest National lnventory, initially under a 5 km point grid. Conceptually, The Primary Sampling Unit is a one ha plot, in which four Secondary Sampling units or sites, geometrically arranged in an inverted Y from, North oriented. With the aim to carry on the evaluation process reliably, at the different levels of interest, in this paper the main forest parameters are discussed; thus, the basic stratified sampling theory and ration estimators literature were reviewed.
