A dasometric, phenological and sanitary study was conducted in a population of Sa/ix bonplandiana H B K, located in the "chinampas" area of Xochimilco, south of Mexico City.
It was determined the diameter (DBH), and height in a 682 sample trees, that were agruped on diameter and height classes and according with of the use of land. In the phenological study, it was determined 7 phases in 12 sample plots and the sanitary evaluation was conducted in the same sample plots, with the detection of 12 different tipes of damages.
The study include the collection of 23 vegetal species of 19 botany familes. With the dasometric information, it was determined the frecuence of each diameter and height classes by tipe of use of land.
The most frecuent damage observed were:
Died tops 30% - Defoliation out of season 30% - Stain leaves 20%
Most important agents of damage were the insects and fungiae the worm Ma/acosoma incurvum var. aztecum Neumogen, is the most important.
It was observed that the "chinampas" with agriculture and turism uses of land had the better formed and healthy trees in comparison with the urban and abandoned uses, where the trees presented more mechanic damages.
The Sa/ix bonplandiana phenology was been afected by microclimatic changes that provoke phase variations.
It was recomended an integrated forest management program for the restoration and conservation of the ecosistem, that include the generation of technology for the stablishment, management and protection of the plantation with the social community participation.
