MODELOS DE CRECIMIENTO PARA UNA PLANTACIÓN DE CAOBA (Swietenia macrophyl/a King).

Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King), is the main native species used in the industry in tropical areas in Mexico.
In spite of its economic significance, there is little or no quantitative information on the species growth and development; this is essential to develop management prograrns.
One of the altematives to drive this information is by studying established plantations in experimental or other stations available in areas in:fluencing the species natural distribution.
By using data available at "San Felipe-Bacalar", Campo Experimental Forestal (CE F), in Quintana Roo, Mexico, severa] models were tested for average growth prediction in terms of total height and normal diameter for a 28 year old mahogany plantations.
It was found that, under these conditions, the equations best suited for growth development during the species young stage are exponential functions.
