Abstract

Regression methods and multiple correlation through step-wise procedures were used to determine the relationships between soil properties and site quality.
50 site variables (soil-topography) were tested regarding: site index; total volume; pine volume; average diameter of the dominant pine species; mean annual growth in volume; diameter of dorninant and codorninant trees.
The best regression models to predict station quality were site index and the volume of pine species.
It was found that 69.4 and 74.2% of the total variation in both parameters was explained by edafic variables.
Mainly soil pH and clay content from the A horizon for the first model.
And soil depth, available water in the B horizon and aspect for the second.
