The knowledge about the biological and ecologicaf aspects of dwarf mistletoe (Arceuthobium vaginatum vaginatum) is limited. At the south mountains of Mexico City the infectation ratio has increased, making urgent to implement control methods to stop the advance and its effects on trees. Considering the success in control measures, the purpose of this study was to determine the approximate occurrence dates of its phenological phases (flowering, fructivication and seed dispersal) of the dwarf mistletoe on pines located ahove the 3 000 meter above sea leve! at Desierto de los Leones , Distrito.Federal.
Altitude lines were marked and · drawn on each sampling plot were established, two specific trees were visited four times a month to check changes on parasites development.
Generally speaking, the determined phenological period were from November 1987 to October 1989, that is 24 months. The flowering took place from February to May; fruits were first seen in April, gradually increasing development until October when this phase was finished. Seed spread began in late July and was finished in October.
The phenological aspects of dwarf mistletoe show that they are coincidental though showing a greater amplitude than in other countries.
