PRESENTATION

The forest areas of the diverse Mexican territory support several forms of vegetation types and climates, from tropical forest, through temperate forests up to arid and semi-arid forest ecosystems.

Not only the connection of the physical environment with bioclimatic factors, but also the interactions with anthropogenic disturbances, generate multiple responses to ecological changes that affect the structure, composition and functioning of forest ecotones. Although Mexican ecosystems have been limited in the research carried out, new boundaries open every day as challenges appear in scientific research. Therefore, the scientific community is preparing with efforts to improve the understanding of such processes.

The edition of this issue of the Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Forestales dedicated to different aspects of forest ecology, constitutes an ideal vehicle to show current trends in relevant topics that concern and occupy forest ecosystem researchers, especially now that the pace of change is fast and science must advance rapidly to provide useful information for society. We hope that this special issue and its content inspire the generation of subsequent editorial efforts that enhance its scope.
